The DuPage County Health Department is seeking a Custodian/Driver to perform maintenance tasks for assigned Health Department buildings as well as be responsible for driving the Smile Squad Mobil Dental Unit Van. This position is eligible for a full DuPage County comprehensive benefit package to include: 12 paid holidays per year, 3 weeks of paid vacation, paid sick time and a pension package. They are also a qualifying employer under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Programs.
Custodial Responsibilities
  • Sweeps, scrubs, mops, washes, strips, waxes, and buffs floors.
  • Dusts, waxes, and washes windows, blinds, walls and woodwork.
  • Cleans and sanitizes restrooms and kitchen areas and replenishes supplies.
  • Vacuums rugs, polishes metalwork, waxes woodwork and doors, washes windows, walls, stairwells and elevators.
  • Pushes, pulls and operates powered cleaning equipment such as an auto scrubber, buffing machine, carpet extractor, wet/dry vacuum and performs general waste and hazardous material removal.
  • Performs routine grounds maintenance work such as shoveling snow, and salting walkways.
  • Performs routine and less complex building maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs and replacing ballasts, painting, minor electrical, carpentry and plumbing projects.
  • Provides back-up for the delivery of mail and supplies between locations.
  • Participates in emergency response activities as assigned.
Driver Responsibilities:
The Smile Squad Mobile Dental Clinic is provided by an Illinois Children’s Health Care Foundation Grant and provides general dentistry to at-risk children.  The Smile Squad offers a range of dental services in locations that are convenient for families to access and minimizes time lost from school and work.
  • Safely transports the mobile dental clinic to and from a storage site to schools, community centers, and DuPage County Public Health Centers.
  • Assists program staff which include dentists and dental hygienists, in setting up the mobile clinic and dental equipment in preparation for program events.
  • Completes pre-operation and post-operation checks of the mobile clinic.
  • Assists program staff in replenishing supplies, sanitizing equipment and rooms in between patients, and empties garbage at the program site.
  • Assists patients and family members in safely entering and leaving the mobile clinic.
  • Assists program staff in event clean-up and dental equipment and clinic storage at the conclusion of each event.
  • Maintains a timely transportation schedule.
  • May perform light office work at the dental clinic located at the Central Public Health Center in Wheaton to include filing, organization and reorganization of supplies and equipment.
