Youth Employment Services

DuPage County’s Workforce Development Division (DCWDD), located at the workNet DuPage Career Center, provides free career services to prepare eligible, motivated young adults in DuPage County for employment. There is a growing need in DuPage County for skilled workers to fill jobs that are in demand or growing. To fill this need, we focus on job skills training for all participants. Additional services are offered to help trainees learn how to effectively search for employment, gain valuable work experience, and be successful on the job.

Our program has four components:

1

Choose Your Career Path

Career Assessment
You need to know yourself to know what kind of work best fits you! A Career Counselor will work with you one-on-one to help you determine your best career path, available resources, and develop a Career Plan.

Get Trained

Basic Skills Training (Online)
This service is for those who may need to improve their Reading, Math or Writing skills in order to be more competitive in their job search or in the workplace. The courseware can be accessed from any computer with internet service by logging in with a username and password.

Training Grant
Today’s employers demand skilled workers! We will prepare you to meet that demand by providing you with a grant to help pay for a certificate and/or license in an occupation that you choose. This grant does not have to be repaid. Your chosen occupation needs to be in demand or growing in DuPage County, and your training can be completed at a variety of approved schools including the local Community Colleges.

On-The-Job (OJT) Training
In On-the-Job Training, an employer will hire you and train you in the skills needed for the job you are doing. We will try to match you with a suitable employer, develop your Training Plan, and provide transitional support throughout the training period. You would need to successfully complete your Training Plan in order to maintain employment. On-the-job training opportunities are subject to availability of funds and employers. Participants will successfully complete relevant workshops prior to starting On-the-Job Training.

Gain Work Experience

Internship
Experience shows employers that you can do the job! This 12-week Internship is available when you are close to finishing your classroom training. The goal is to help you gain valuable experience in the occupation for which you trained. Placements are subject to the availability of worksites and funds. Participants will successfully complete relevant workshops prior to being selected for an Internship.

Get A Job!

Job Referrals
We will work to refer you to suitable jobs that DuPage County employers post with us. Once referred, you will still need to submit your resume and be interviewed as with any other job, but these referrals can go a long way to supplement your independent job search.
