The star of this success story is Mikaela Wellington, a young woman who found a new career and a full-time job through DuPage County’s Make Your Way (MYWay) program.

Mikaela Wellington, 19 years old, held jobs at Jewel-Osco and KFC, yet knew these would not become careers for her. “You had to work really hard to make very little money and it’s something you can’t grow out of, and if you can, it’s going to take a lot of time,” says Mikaela. She now has a full-time front desk job at Embassy Suites in Lombard, with more possibilities for advancement in the future.

Just months ago, 20-year-old Brionna Collier was working at low wage jobs with limited prospects for advancement, first as a temp on an assembly line, then as a bakery clerk at Jewel-Osco. Today, Brionna is happily working full time, 38-40 hours a week at the front desk of a Naperville dentist’s office, making a good hourly rate and thanking the MYWay program for how it’s all turning out.

The star of this job search success story is Jean-Pierre Mbetu Nkanga, who received a grant for CNC machine training, as well as other employment services from the DuPage County Workforce Development Division, located in the workNet DuPage Career Center in Lisle, IL.

When Jean-Pierre Mbetu Nkanga first came in to the workNet DuPage Career Center, he was, as would be expected, somewhat discouraged. He needed to find a way to make a better living than the $10.00/hr. he had most recently been making.

Nevertheless, Jean-Pierre managed to remain positive. He never lost sight of the ultimate goal — completing school to upgrade his skills, and getting back to work. To say the least, this was not easy to do, with a wife and four children depending on him. (more…)

The star of this story is Scott Redman, an IT professional who received career and employment services from the DuPage County Workforce Development Division (WDD), located in the workNet DuPage Career Center in Lisle. Redman received a training grant through DuPage County WDD, that originated with the federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and ultimately helped him land a new job he loves.

Scott Redman was hired by his current employer exactly one year to the day after losing his previous job. His layoff date became a happy anniversary, but his year-long journey to employment was not an easy one. (more…)
