Much of the stress associated with being laid off comes from the many uncertainties that suddenly arise. So you have been out of the workforce for the past 10 years.  Perhaps you were child-rearing, or tending to an ill family member who has now passed away.  Maybe you were serving in the armed forces, or running your own fishing boat business in the Bahamas.
